We arrived in Tallinn the day before a festival of Baltic folklore.
On Saturday morning, the market square was a riot of colourful folk
dress.
Some look quite Tyrolean, I thought
And all seemed very patient, considering how long it was taking for
things to get going
I think these ladies are Hungarian - Estonian belongs to the same
linguistic group as Hungarian, even though there are very few words in
common; according to our City guide, only "water" and "no". Here
they are with their banners, later on in the morning.
I haven't any photos of this group on stage.
Udmurtia is one of the independent states that make up the
CIS. Its people speak a language that belongs to the same Eastern
Finnish group as Estonian.
