Baltica 2004

We arrived in Tallinn the day before a festival of Baltic folklore. On Saturday morning, the market square was a riot of colourful folk dress.
Estonian group, I think
Some look quite Tyrolean, I thought
Could this be Austria, or Norway?
And all seemed very patient, considering how long it was taking for things to get going
Are you sitting comfortably?
I think these ladies are Hungarian - Estonian belongs to the same linguistic group as Hungarian, even though there are very few words in common; according to our City guide, only "water" and "no".  Here they are with their banners, later on in the morning.

I haven't any photos of this group on stage.

Udmurtia

Udmurtia is one of the independent states that make up the CIS.  Its people speak a language that belongs to the same Eastern Finnish group as Estonian.

And here they are, singing the next day.
