This is the Old New synagogue – it’s about 7 hundred years old, and one of the few bits of this district that wasn’t rebuilt under Joseph II. Which explains the name of this area.
And this – the blue building to the right of the center line, - is the Jewish Town Hall.
Josef’s dream was to make Prague a rival for Paris. A sort of “hotels race” ensued.
What I found most engaging about this district, though, was the Art Nouveau decoration on housefronts,
and doorways. The florid mozarabic style of the “Spanish Synagogue” does nothing for me.
