High Atlas

During the first afternoon, we continued our long coach ride towards Casablanca. The country is varied, but generally much greener (the mountains face west) than we expected.

We passed though many villages. You can’t say they are wealthy.

But the people seem unfailingly cheerful. Near one town we passed a famous marabout, where the annual moussem (pilgrimage) was taking place. The atmosphere was very much as one imagines a medieval fair:

You could call it “ribbon development”; the stalls stretch for miles along the road:
